As expected, UPS has announced a net 4.9% increase in Ground rates: a 5.9% increase in rates offset by a 1% reduction in the UPS Ground fuel surcharge, effective January 2, 2012. As is true of the similar increases by FedEx, the average increase cited is unlikely to be the increase you see as a shipper, since the 4.9% is balanced across all weights, zones and service types. To get an idea of what the new rates mean for you, you have to look at your complete shipping profile and the entire rate structure. With all the other things you are trying to balance at this time of year, wouldn’t it be nice if someone else could do the work on this one? We thought you’d think so!
